If you own a pet, you have likely dealt with “that” smell and stains among your carpet and floors. While it is unpleasant, there are many tips and tricks out there that will help you deal with the smell and stains left behind. All that is left up to you is training your pet. But with clean floors, pet stain carpet cleaning becomes a much easier task!
Tip 1: Soak up what you can. Use a clean, dry rag that you do not mind disposing of or a paper towel/newspaper combination. Keep these handy so you can catch the spot quickly. Sprays or other cleaners cannot do much good on really wet spots.
Tip 2: Rinse the area with cold water after you have soaked it up. Warm or hot water will not work, as it can cause the stain to set in the carpet. The point is to remove as much as the stain and smell as possible before treating with any cleaner.
Tip 3: Do NOT use a steam cleaner. It can cause the waste to bond to your carpet, keeping it there for far longer than you want it.
Tip 4: You can use a cleaner specifically made for pet stains and odors that can be found at almost any store. These will work best if you have cleaned up as much as possible first. You can also use a solution of one quart water mixed with one teaspoon of white vinegar, only after cleaning the spot with cool water first.
Tip 5: Always keep a towel or rag close by, especially with a new pet.
Tip 6: Simply keep your furry friends confined to a part of the house without carpet. Once they are older and trained, they are welcome to set foot on the carpeted area of the home.
Tip 7: Rent equipment to clean your carpets every once in awhile or hire a professional carpet cleaner. In the long run, you will be glad you did!
While potty training your pet can be a thankless and exhausting task, it WILL get better. By having these tips handy, people will have trouble remembering you even have a pet. Fresh carpets and pets can coexist!
